It was completed with great success at the Theological School of Halki on 2-4 June the international scientific conference "Eco well-being: Environment, Animals, Morality". The conference was opened by Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, who remained for two days on the island of Halki, expressing its enthusiasm for the organization and the hope that this initiative will find imitators, in order to make the Theological School more prominent.
The conference was organized by the Interdepartmental Postgraduate Program (ΔΠΜΣ) "Animals: Morality, Fair enough, Well-being "of EKPA , in collaboration with the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople and the Holy Theological School of Halki., the Hellenic Pasteur Institute and is supported by the Laboratory of Applied Philosophy of the Department of Philosophy of EKPA.
The conference highlighted the ethical rules governing the tripartite environment-animal relationship- human, in the light of Ecology, of Philosophy and Theology, as well as the attitude that humans should have towards animals and their ecosystems.
In the dimensions of the ecological issue and in the care of the Orthodox Church for the protection of the whole of Creation, and in particular the relevant initiatives of the Ecumenical Patriarchate to raise the awareness of the world public in this direction, reported A.Th.. Panagiotis, the Ecumenical Patriarch Mr.. Bartholomew, in his speech on Friday, 3 June 2022, at the International Scientific Conference “Eco-living: Environment, Animals, Morality". His Holiness was addressed by An. Professor Evangelos Protopapadakis and stressed the huge ecological work he performs and the great honor to attend as a speaker at the Conference. His Holiness praised the organizers of the Conference for choosing the topic, noting that:
"There is no future for man, if this does not include the future of animals. There is no sustainable humanitarian ethics, if it does not include the "respect of life", if he does not express at the same time the "unconditional responsibility, δι ’ο,τι ζη », δι ’ο,what is a living organism, as Albert Schweitzer would say.
The event was greeted by: Bishop of Arabissos Cassianos, Professor I.. Μ. St.. Trinity of Halki and the Consul General of Greece in Istanbul, Georgina Sultanopoulou, while brilliant scientists from all over participated in the Conference and presented their views and research findings (see. Conference Program).
The Patriarch was honored with medals for 30 years of the Foundation and the Sciacca International Awards - awarded by An. Professor and President of the Conference, Evangelos Protopapadakis, member of Sciacca- and the Scientific Association of Graduates of Panteion University “Aristotle”, on behalf of which the medal was awarded by Vice President Vicky Bafataki.
The presentation of the Conference was made by Theano Karatsioumpani.
It is noted that the speakers of the Conference were received at the Sait Halim Pasha Mansion by Dr.. Nihat Kandaloglou speaker at the Conference, while a cruise to the Princes' Islands and an artistic program in the Gardens of the Theological School with Katerina Kakosaiou took place in the presence of the Ecumenical Patriarch.
